1) EINSTEIN, FEAR, AND A FRIENDLY UNIVERSE
Albert Einstein once said, "the single most important decision any of us will ever have to make is whether or not to believe that the universe is friendly."
What do you believe? Is this a dog-eat-dog world where unless you exercise extreme caution and control you might lose it all around the next corner?
Or, do you believe that even if the world has its share of tragedy, selfishness, stupidity, and mystery, that beneath it all is a loving force faithfully moving us towards greater awareness, compassion and purpose?
While many of us would aspire to the later belief, our cultural default leans towards the former. In other words, we have a long history and lots of training to be well motivated by fear. "Study hard or you will not pass, will not get a job, will not earn a living, etc." "Buy this product or you will not be attractive, find a mate, be happy...."
Fear is a great motivator. The problem is it can never lead you to fulfillment or a deep experience of success. No matter how much money, power or status you get, it will never be enough to placate the voice of fear.
The path beyond fear begins with greater awareness. Becoming aware at how frequently our thoughts, beliefs and actions are rooted in a fear-based, "you have to do this... or else" energy, leads you back to a place of being present. Once present you can decide to believe it is a friendly universe and make choices based on what will best serve you, inspire you, or contribute the most to what you are trying to create in the world.
Fear is omnipresent in our world and it is killing us. Fear makes functional atheists out of us all.
Find your way to choice, inspiration and purpose.

2) COACHING TIP
In May I had the pleasure of attending the ICF European Conference in Tønsberg, Norway. It was an absolute delight. In the smaller conferences you have the chance to spend more time with the participants and presenters. I was fortunate to have the opportunity to see and chat with Tim Gallwey, author, speaker, and founder of the Inner Game www.theinnergame.com .
Starting as a tennis coach over 30 years ago, Tim has made a large contribution to the field of coaching. A big part of Tim's message concerns the power of simple awareness. In Tim's words, "Awareness is curative."
One of the other messages Tim shares with the world is his simple model, PERFORMANCE = POTENTIAL - INTERFERENCE
This model is powerful in its simplicity. And it is a good reminder to all coaches that of the two forces, you must consistently work with, if you hope to coach your clients to optimal results.

3) MEEK MARKETING
The meek may well inherit the earth. But if you are sitting around in your comfort zone waiting for an inheritance, your chances of having a successful coaching business are zero. Meekness does not sell coaching or attract an abundance of clients.
When you step past your gremlin inspired meekness (I am not an experienced enough coach yet. I am not good at selling. I don't know how to talk to people about coaching. I am not sure I can create enough value, etc.......) and step into the possibility that you CAN add value to people - things will shift in your marketing. It is all about getting over yourself and getting out there and giving people an experience of you and coaching, so they can see how it can be of use to accomplish the changes, challenges or goals they have - and are willing to spend money on.
Yes you will get turned down. Don't confuse temporary lack of appreciation for the value of your service with personal rejection. Always remember when you are marketing, some clients will accept your offer of service, and some won’t. So what?
Don't let your fears keep you from doing what you are meant to do. Find your inspiration to do this work. Your business success lies on the other side of your meekness.
